Some women with a prolapse of the uterus do not have any symptoms and the condition is only discovered during an internal examination for another reason.
Most women with a prolapse will experience an uncomfortable feeling of fullness, dragging or heaviness in the vagina. There may be a sensation of something coming down or out of the vagina. If prolapse is quite advanced a lump can be seen inside or outside the vagina. Other common symptoms include:
- lower back pain
- difficulty going to the toilet
- difficulty walking
- difficulty or discomfort during sexual intercouse.
Women with prolapse of the uterus often have other pelvic floor problems such as urinary incontinence.
